Mercedes-Benz introduced a new military version of its Arocs 8x8 heavy-duty truck
At Eurosatory 2014, Mercedes-Benz has presented its new Arocs 8x8, an off-road heavy-duty truck. Apart from their excellent environmental compatibility thanks to their Euro VI engines, the new Arocs vehicles boast three outstanding attributes: power, efficiency and ruggedness.

The complete range of two-, three- and four-axlevehicles is powered by especially low pollution Euro VI engines. With the new Arocs, transport tasks can be performed more efficiently than ever before with an optimised payload.

The frame, frame height and overhangs are specifically matched to use in difficult terrain. The 744 mm wide frame with nine millimetre wall thickness of cold-formed, high-strength fine-grained steel provides the guarantee of high loadability and torsional flexibility even under tough conditions. To ensure a high ground clearance for extreme off-road use, the top edge of the frame is set at 1120 mm, which is higher than on comparable trucks. The permanently driven axles have been moved further towards the rear for advantageous weight distribution and also to allow the use of large special-purpose tyres without need for conversion.

Bodybuilders are provided with a hole pattern in a 50 mm grid, standardised brackets, tabs and fasteners. Defined attachment zones and mounting positions on the frame of the Arocs result in time savings and make for security of planning.

Heavy-duty four-axle Arocs vehicles come with Servotwin electro-hydraulic steering – a worldwide innovation for four-axle commercial vehicles. Speed-sensitive steering power assistance and active steering return provide a previously unattained level of steering comfort as well as maximum steering precision.

With the Mercedes-Benz Arocs, military transport logistics is made more efficient than ever before. The new Euro VI engines are significantly more fuel-efficient than their predecessors by up to five percent.

The militarised version of the Arocs brings together the advantages of state-of-the-art engineering with military-grade specifications, especially in terms of off-road capability and load capacity, while at the same time complying with the most stringent environmental standards. The Arocs concept allows a wide range of different variants with which individual customer wishes can be satisfied. The high quality and reliability of Mercedes-Benz products – evidenced by the large volume of vehicles for the civil market – result in a high availability of Arocs logistics trucks for the armed forces. Modern chassis and engine technology lead to low fuel costs and operating costs. Maintenance and repair as well as full spare parts availability are ensured by the dense Mercedes-Benz service network.

The preferred operational area for the Arocs is military logistics in the home country as well as missions under conditions of peace.
