Today, July 21, 2015 is the National Day in Belgium, its commemorates the day on which Leopold I took the constitutional oath as the first King of Belgium, on July 21st 1831. There is a military parade of the Belgian army in the center of Brussels with troops and combat vehicles.
     
     

Army Recognition editorial team with its Defense Web TV has make a full coverage about the rehearsal of the Belgian military parade showing the latest combat equipment in use with the Belgian Armed Forces.

The day typically starts with a Catholic Te Deum service in Cathedral of Brussels attended by the King and other dignitaries. In the afternoon, the Belgian Army and police are reviewed by the King, and parade past the Royal Palace and around the Parc de Bruxelles.

There is a display by the Belgian air force. The military, civil defense and emergency services and other government departments typically have stalls in the nearby Place Poelart, Rue de la Régence, Place Royale and surroundings which explain their roles to the public

The Land Component formerly the Belgian Land Forces, is the land-based branch of the Belgian Armed Forces. The current chief of staff of the Land Component is Major-General Deconinck. He was appointed Belgian Army Land Forces commander in October 2014.

We had the chance to have an interview with Major-General Deconinck to have latest information about the Belgian land Forces capacities. "Belgian Land Forces are now equipped with latest generation of combat vehicles and military equipment to perform all missions at the national and international level", said Major-General Deconinck. "We need more one more light vehicle, RRV 'Rapid Reaction Vehicle" to complete our fleet of combat vehicles that we have acquired since 2003/2004", he added.

The Belgian Armed Forces have a total of 30,600 military personnel, including 11,300 soldiers for the Land Forces. Main combat vehicles use by the Belgian Land Forces, Piranha 3C in many variants, Dingo 2 and Pandur 1.
 
 

Structure: 1 Command HQ (COMOPSLAND ), 2 brigade HQ-Level command and control modules (one medium brigade with HQ in Leopoldsburg (North of Belgium) , one light brigade in Marche-en-Famenne (South of Belgium). The light brigade is composed of three light infantry battalions (two of which are airborne), one Special Forces Group, one Airborne Training Centre and one Commando training centre. The medium brigade is composed of four medium battalions.

The Belgian Land Forces include also, 1 Military Police Group, 1 Movement Control Group, 1 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Group, 1 artillery group equipped with 105mm Light Gun Mk2, 120mm mortars and Mistral air defense missile system, 1 ISTAR Group, 1 Information Operation Group, 2 engineer battalions, 3 logistic battalions, 3 communication and information systems groups, 1 competence centre for land operations and 4 training camps.
