Hungarian
manufacturer SERO presented a new version of his
Gepard anti-material rifle, the GM6 Lynx. The weapon
is distinguished in particular from Gepard by the
use of a semi-automatic mechanism, the possibility
to coupling a video camera with the scope and a
increased rate of fire, the Lynx which can fire
5 cartridges from 12,7x107mm in less than 3 seconds.
The Gepard GM6 Lynx anti-material rifle was developed
to provide an enhanced capability against emergent
threats, such as suicide car bomb attacks and also
to provide an extension to the safety-zone around
a VIP target with a large-calibre, yet compact weapon
that is readily transportable and available for
immediate use.
The
Gepard GM6 Lynx is a bullpup design, self-loading,
anti-material rifle, with the magazine
mounted to the rear of the pistol-grip
and a heavy-duty recoil-absorbing butt-pad
fitted to the rear of the receiver. This
design of the rifle means it can only
be fired from the right shoulder. It is
chambered for either the Russian 12.7
× 108 mm or 12.7 × 99 mm (0.50
Browning) cartridges. The weapon is distinguished
in particular from Gepard by the use of
a semi-automatic mechanism, the possibility
to coupling a video camera with the scope
and a increased rate of fire, the Lynx
which can fire 5 cartridges from 12,7x107mm
in less than 3 seconds. The power of its
ammunition (2 centimeters of armour transpierced
to 100 meters) gives the possibility to
engage the vehicles such as mobile radars,
shelters, fuel tankers as well as helicopters
(up to 600-800 meters) or firing through
the walls from a building.
Purpose
of the rifle
For
urban fighting the Gepard GM6 Lynx rifle
can be used for demolishing the enemy's
firing positions in buildings, weapons under
cover and armoured rifle troops, which are
manoeuvring on the streets. It is suitable
both for squads and independent units. Because
of its small arm category weight and its
portability, it is an ideal heavy weapon
for the parachutes, airmobile and territorial
troops.
Gepard GM6 Lynx is a suitable small arm
for the terrorist repulse actions, which
actions got a basic role according to the
new North-Atlantic strategy, concerning
that its significant destructive force is
combined with a great accuracy, which makes
it able to take out safely an important
manpower representing any kind of point
target within 600 m.
Gepard GM6 Lynx is also a high efficiency
bodyguard-weapon for guarding important
target persons, which can extend significantly
the firing range of the safe-zone around
the target person, because an attack of
light armoured combat vehicle can be repulsed
- with quick shot - in 300 m. It is also
suitable to repulse the so-called "self-propelled
(suicide) bombs," which are installed
into vehicles, with even one shot to the
power of the vehicle outside the effect
of the (non-nuclear) bomb.
