The
M997A2 is based on the chassis of the standard Humvee. The vehicle is
designed and manufactured by the American Defence Company AM General.
The M997A2 is used as ambulance for the battlefield. The M997A2 replaced
the M997 HMMWV variant. The M997A2 can carry four litter or eight ambulatory
patients. These vehicles provide mobility for emergency situations and
a quick link between battlefield casualties and emergency services not
readily available on the front lines of battle. The vehicle is in service
in the U.S. Army since April 2, 1985. |

| Design
and protection |
| The
M997A2 is equipped with basic armor and used to transport casualties
from the battlefield to the medical aid stations. The M997A2
is capable of transporting up to 4 litter patients, 8 ambulatory
patients, or a combination of litter and ambulatory patients.
Additionally, medical personnel, equipment, and a driver could
be accommodated in the vehicle. The M997A2 can be fitted with
variety of add-on armor packages to increase the protection
against IED or firing of small arms.

The
M997A2 is motorized with a V-8, 6.5L Diesel Fuel Injection engine
coupled to an 4-speed automatic transmission with a maximum
input torque rating of 451 lb.-ft. (612 N m).

vehicle to run 48 km at a speed of 48 km/h.A self-recovery winch
is available in option.
