Description
The PMMC G5 (Protected Mission Module Carrier) is a new generation of multirole tracked armoured vehicle designed and manufactured by the German Company FFG (Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH).With the PMMC G5 (Protected Mission Module Carrier), FFG developed a vehicle that can carry additional loads thanks to its spacious interior and flexible deployment options. The G5 is a tracked 25 tons vehicle, featuring an unrivalled combination of outstanding protection, high performance, huge payload and an inner volume, setting new standards in military markets. As a key feature, the PMMC G5 can rapidly be fitted with various standardized mission modules to meet different mission requirements. The mission modules can be changed within a few hours. The PPMC G5 was presented for the first time to the public in 2012, during the defense exhibition in Paris, Eurosatory. The vehicle is selected by the Danish Ministry of Defense to replace the M113. In December 2014, the Ministry of Defence from Denmark has received final offers from four European manufacturers to replace M113 tracked armoured vehicle personnel carrier currently in service with the Danish armed forces. BAE Systems Hagglunds has offered its CV90 Armadillo, while Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) and General Dynamics European Land Systems have pitched its G5 protected mission module carrier (PMMC) and ASCOD vehicle.

Variants:

Armament
The PMMC G5 can be fitted with one remote controlled weapon station which can be armed with a weapon up to 20mm caliber. At Eurosatory 2014, FFG has presented the PMMC G5 equipped with one turret FLW 200+ armed with one 20mm automatic cannon. This turret was equipped with optoelectronic sensor systems used for field surveillance, target acquisition and combat by day, night or under poor visibility. The system comprises a high-resolution CCD color camera with zoom, a powerful thermal imaging device (cooled or non-cooled), a unique image fusion function and a laser rangefinder for the modular surveillance, operating and display concept of the weapon stations. Six smoke-grenade dischargers is mounted at the front of the turret.
Design and protection
The layout of the vehicle is standard with engine at the front, driver in the middle and troops compartment at the rear. The driver seat is located at the front of the vehicle on the left side. The driver position is fitted with a large window at the front, and one small window on each side, each windows are protected with bar armour. The infantrymen enter and leave the PMMC G5 via a power-operated ramp in the rear of the hull that opens downwards and has a door in the left side. The PMMC G5 can carry a total of 12 soldiers, including driver and commander and has a payload of 8.5 t. The crew cabin has an internal volume of 14.5m³. A special focus in the design of the PMMC G5 was laid on outstanding protection capabilities. Even in the basic configuration the PMMC G5 offers high level integrated mine protection and IED protection, which was up to now only available for vehicles with a much higher gross vehicle weight. With add-on modules the ballistic protection level can be increased furthermore. To increase ballistic protection, the vehicle can be fitted with add-on armour modules.
Mobility
The PMMC G5 features rubber tracks from Soucy and a 560 Hp high density powerpack. It can reach a maximum road speed up to 72 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. The suspension either side consists of six dual rubber-tyred roadwheels with the drive sprocket at the front and the idler at the rear. There is only one track-return roller in the centre of the suspension.
Accessories
The PMMC G5 APC offers high situational awareness through 360°. A day / night camera system fitted to the vehicle enables the observation of targets under all lighting conditions. A camera is mounted at the rear and the front of the vehicle. Standard equipment of the PMMC G5 includes air-conditioning system, fire suppression system and NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) air filtration protective equipment.
