Gulf States to spend $65 billion on defense budget

The specialist defense market intelligence firm, “Forecast International”, projects that in 2010 the GCC states will invest $63 billion in defense and security spending and that this figure will increase in 2011 to $65 billion. To confirm these estimates, the offset specialist, Blenheim Capital Partners, estimates that the GCC states will spend in excess of $105 billion in the next two years.

The Gulf States have attractive offset programs. It is reported that in European defense sales, the typical value of the required offsets are 100%, while the average for the rest of the world is approximately 60%. In the GCC the formal offset requirements are as shown on the table below.
