The Canadian army could not use some of its new tanks in Afghanistan shortly after their arrival because of technical problems, indicated the auditor General Sheila Fraser in a report published Tuesday. The automatic gearbox ESM500, installed in the French main battle tank Leclerc can be coupled to a maximum 1600 hp engine. A complete Powerpack can also be proposed for other applications like Al-Khalid or other ‘higher than 50 tons class’ vehicles.
 
AMX-30 mobility upgrades
 
The mobility of the AMX-30 and its derivatives (like Shahine), can be upgraded to the AMX-30B2 standards by the installation of the semi-automatic transmission ENC200.
