Auverland Panhard A4 AVL or PVP (Petit Véhicule
Protégé) is an all-terrain, air transportable,
high mobility, modular, lightweight, armored vehicle
developed to meet the requirements of the French
Army. In 2004, the French DGA, délégation
générale pour l’armement or
Armament Procurement Agency, has awarded a €40
million ($48 million) production contract to société
nouvelle des automobiles Auverland (SNAA) for 314
petit véhicule protégé/protected
small vehicles (PVP). In 2005, Peugeot Citroën

Protection
The
technical and military concept behind the
A4 AVL comes from the French Army, which
is currently procuring a new generation
of armored vehicles. Apart from a high useful
load capacity, the French Army has placed
the accent on effective ballistic protection
and operational versatility in line with
its new mission profile. The crew compartment
as well as the engine have been protected
through the addition aluminum and steel
plates with thickness ranging from 6mm to
10mm. Modern military operations demand
a high mobile, liaison vehicle such as Auverland
A4 AVL.
Propulsion
The PVP/AVL powerful but economical 107
kW euro 3 diesel engine gives the PVP a
maximum road speed of 120 km. On a single
tank of fuel, the vehicle has a range of
approx. 750 km. The vehicle is motorized
with a IVECO Turbo Diesel Euro 3 4 cylinders
in line, coupled to gearbox ZF automatic.
The Panhard General Defense PVP is based
on a 4 x 4 cross-country chassis.
Accessories
The
Panhard-Auverland AVL PVP is air transportable
in the transport-helicopter CH-53, as well
as in the C-130, C-160 and A400M. The versatile
PVP can carry up to four persons incl. equipment

wide variety of missions, such as reconnaissance,
