Folks,

Does anyone have any information on the above photo????? Looks like a cross between the AT-4 and the Carl Gustaf.

It's an RPO Schmel (Bumblebee) infantry flamethrower, i.e. fires a rocket with a thermobaric (Fuel-Air Explosive - FAE) warhead.

Dear Member,

The SHMEL-M uses a soft launch which I do not full understand. But according to one source the object with the holes in the photo is the rocket engine. When the weapon is fired the projectile moves forward and the rocket backwards (it is most likely facing towards the projectile - the rocket engine is used as a gas generator similar to the Milan). There is no dangerous back-blast. The spent rocket motor may fall on the gunners leg though.
