In the mid 1970s based on the Israelis Army's experience in the 1973 war with the Russian supplied RPG-7 the decision was made to develop a weapon in that catagory. Most thought that weapon would be like the RPG. But when it was revealed it was discovered to be based on the French STRIM antitank rocket launcher that had replaced the US 3.5 inch Super Bazooka. Unlike the RPG and the US Bazookas the round was enclosed in its storage container and plugged into the rear of the launcher giving more length for the rocket motor burn and protecting the rocket projectile against weather and battlefield abuse. It was also shown to be a faster and more stable way of loading the projectile that unloading the rocket projectile from its storage tube and inserting it in the rear of the rocket tube and connecting the firing wires. In the early 1980s the Israeli Military Industries B-300 won the contest to be the baseline for the US Marines bunker buster weapon the SMAW.
