A division of Hughes Missiles developed the first mast mounted sight for the TOW, but it was considered to complex, expensive and prone to problems to be adopted by an nations army to my knowledge. the TOW mast mounted sight on the Hughes 500 Defender.
Also the Swedes mounted a TOW sight developed in Sweden on the roof of a French helicopter. There was some h*ll raised about that because the total cost of the sight was 1/2 the cost of the helicopter!
Sweden's SAAB HELIOS roof sight explanation. Laser range finding. Uses by many nations including Sweden, France, UK, Germany, Belgium, etc. Second photo above show fitted to British Army Lynx. Two photos below shown fitted to German Bo-105 although never adopted by German Army (HOT instead)
Hughes early after the Vietnam War developed a helicopter system for the TOW missile which has been adpted by many nations.
