Dear Vitaly,

What is the top photo of. It looks like the French WASP project which was fo a cheap assault weapon that could defeat light armored vehicles and for use in urban combat -- ie not an antiarmor weapon with the ability to defeat main battle tanks.

Dear Vitaly,

No, it is not a weapon in the French Luchaire WASP category as I thought. It is a weapon though that US soldiers and Marines would love to have for Afghanistan.

Dear Vitaly,

It is off topic, but the brochure explains something I have always wondered about with the KORNET: the warheads in the antitank version. It seems they are using the French ERYX method where a tunnel is provided for the main penetration stream for the shape charge warhead located at the back of the missile.

Folks,

We all know about the new active systems being developed to defeat antitank weapons from the sophisticated ones to the unguided short range infantry weapons.

Well it seems the Russians have anticipated a market for a simple and cheap throwaway antitank weapon that can defeat both reactive armor and active systems. The RPG-30 has a simple solution. A small rocket is fired micro seconds before the larger rocket either activating the active systems like the Israeli TROPHY or blowing away reactive armor tiles.
