FEINDEF 2019: Altus showcases special backpacks for females and avalanche survivability

The Spanish company Altus, part of Yuma, is showcasing two unprecedented backpacks: one is designed for the female anatomy, the second one for survivability in an avalanche.

The most “spectacular” one is the one that has been designed to equip mountain troops operating in winter conditions, at altitudes where avalanches occur. In such a case, the bearer needs to pull a handle which triggers the inflation, in 3 to 4 seconds, of two independent air bags by a little compressed nitrogen or argon bottle. These airbags keep the bearer at the surface of the snow, while their orange color helps the rescuers to spot him/her. These airbags are quickly and easily reloadable.

The other special backpack has been designed for the female anatomy. The body of the pack is narrower and shorter, the waist belts are shaped according to the hips of a woman.
