German Company Deutz AG will supply Ukraine with engines to upgrade BTR-4 8x8 armoured.
The German Company Deutz AG will supply Ukraine with engines to upgrade the local-made BTR-4 8x8 armoured vehicle personnel carrier. According Ukrainian newspaper website, Ukroboronprom (State Company of Ukrainian Defense Industry) as signed a contract with Deutz AG for the supply of these engines.
     
     
Ukraine's major state-owned military hardware manufacturer Ukroboronprom has decided to use NATO-type Deutz engines to replcae standard Russian-made engine.

The new BTR-4 version fitted with German Deutz engine will be tested in the next few weeks, and could enter in service with the Ukrainian armed forces. The new engines will be also installed on BTR-3 and 'Dozor-B' wheeled armored vehicles.

Deutz AG is an engine manufacturer, based in Cologne, Germany. The Company produces a full range of engines available in the power range 4 to 500 kW, with air, oil or water cooling and with life expectancy of 20,000 and 30,000 running hours TBO (Time Between Overhauling) on rebuilt and brand-new units.

The BTR-4 is a 8x8 wheeled armoured personnel carrier designed in Ukraine by the Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau as a private venture. The prototype was unveiled at the Aviasvit'2006 exhibition held in Ukraine in June 2006.

The basic version of BTR-4 featuring ballistic protection against medium-caliber firearms weighs 17.5 tons. One version, can also be fitred with add-on amour, with this feature, the BTR-4 providing the highest level of protection, weights around 25-ton.
