Colombian-made Cobra 4x4 light tactical vehicle at ExpoDefensa 2017


Colombian armed forces presents its local-made 4x4 light tactical vehicle named Cobra at ExpoDefensa 2017, the International Defense and Security Exhibition which takes in Bogota, Colombia. The Cobra was fully developed and designed in Colombia based on a Chevrolet 4x4 chassis.

The Cobra prototypes were manufactured in five variants including a field ambulance version, a personnel carrier vehicle, a cargo carrier, a rocket launcher system and an anti-tank version. The rocket launcher variant is fitted with two launchers of 12 rockets of 70mm manufactured by the Colombian Company Indumil.

The Cobra in anti-tank version is fitted with one Spike anti-tank missile launcher and one 12.7mm machine gun on swivel station at the rear of the vehicle which can be used as anti-aircraft weapon.

The Cobra is motorized with a four cylinder in line 2.5 l engine developing 130 hp at 3,500 rpm coupled to a manual transmission with 5 gears. It can run at a maximum road speed of 150 km/h.

The Cobra in standard configuration, is a three-man off-road which can be used for many long-range desert operations including patrol border, artillery observation, anti-tank , combat search and rescue missions.

Currently, the Colombian army has already performed trial tests with the vehicle, and it could enter in service in the next few months, as mobile rocket launcher system for artillery units.
