Eurosatory 2018: Yugoimport from Serbia latest technologies of military equipment

At Eurosatory 2018, the International Defense Exhibition in Paris, Serbian State Defense Company Yugoimport SDPR presents its latest technologies and innovations about electronic warfare systems, small arms, weapon stations, ammunition, ground radar, individual equipment and unmanned aerial/ground drones. Today Yugoimport has a successful several decades long history of trading in armaments, defense equipment and technology transfers.

The basic activity of the state company Yugoimport SDPR from the very date of the establishment of the same onward has been and still is trade in armaments and defense equipment (ADE) including both export and import of ADE, services of overhaul and modernization of ADE, training and education of personnel, as well as complex fields of cooperation-first of all transfer of defense technologies, capital investments in defense infratructure, joint development, cooperation in production, etc.

In the field of radar, Yugoimport has developed the PR-15, a man-portable ground surveillance radar that provides long detection ranges transmitting low peak power. This solid-state, Pulse-Doppler radar, automatically detects moving targets out to 23 kilometers.

Fixed target cancellation, subclutter detection and inbound/outbound indication are achieved by range-Doppler processing using FFT. Low transmitting power, LPI capabilities and some ability of adaptation to radar environment are achieved by utilizing advanced pulse compression techniques including mismatching and waveform agility. Classification and target activity analysis are accomplished by using time-Doppler analysis combined with pattern recognition techniques.

At Eurosatory 2018, Yugoimport also showcased latest development of jamming system SPJ-1 jamming system especially designed to be mounted on combat offering protection against IED's threats. The system is designed to saturate an area with electromagnetic energy in order to neutralize an IED that is activated by remote control on command. IED Jammers work by preventing radio signals from reaching the radio trigger used to detonate IED.

With the increase demands for Remotely operated Weapon Station (RWS), Yugoimport has developed a gyro-stabilized remote controlled weapon station that can be armed with a 12.7mm machine gun. This RWS can be esaily integrated to old and modern tracked and wheeled armored and tactical vehicles.

The Yugoimport RWS is fitted with day vision optic featuring CCD TV camera with adjustable zoom, night thermal vision system and laser range finder with range from 100 to 2,500 m. The gunner position is equipped with joystick and computer with fire control system software.

Today, unmanned aerial and ground drones is a part of new modern equipment used by military and security forces, at Eurosatory 2018, Yugoimport has display the Unmanned ground vehicle Miloš, called Little Milosh, an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) developed by the Military Technical Institute Belgrade.

The Little Milosh UGV has an autonomy of 4 hours maximum and can be operated by on soldier thanks to the use of a small remote control station with a maximum range of 2 km. It is based on a tracked chassis and can be carried by smaller 4x4 military vehicles or in numbers on larger vehicles to the deployment zone. For surveillance and detection it uses thermal camera, a day and night camera, and a laser ranger. It has one or two weapons attached on its turret including 7.62mm machine gun or 40mm automatic grenade launcher. It has a maximum total weight of around 300 kg and a payload of 400 kg. Two day/night cameras are mounted at the front and on at the back for driving.

Another unmanned product showcased by Yugoimportt at Eurosatory 2018 is the Stršljen, a drone helicopter. It can be controlled either manually from the ground control station or through the autonomous mode.

According to YugoImport specifications, the Stršljen has a gross weight of 750 kg with a payload capacity of 350 kg. The Stršljen can be configured to carry a range of weapons to perform armed interventions if required. It can be armed with different types of air-to-surface missiles or 12.7mm machine gun.

The Stršljen can flight at a maximum speed of 160 km/k to a maximum altitude of 4,000m. Recently, Yugoimport has performed first flying tests with this drone helicopter.

Yugoimport is also manufacturer of wheeled armoured vehicle as the Lazar 3, an 8x8 armoured vehicle personnel carrier fully designed and developed in Serbia.

The LAZAR 3 was unveiled in February 2017 during the defense exhibition IDEX 2017 which was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Lazar is available in IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) variant used to carry infantry into battle and provide direct fire support with a 30mm automatic cannon and anti-tank guided missiles.

The layout of the Lazar 3 IFV is very similar to modern wheeled combat vehicles, with driver and commander position located in the front left side of the hull with the engine at the right side and troops compartment at the rear. The vehicle can carried a total of 12 military personnel including commander, driver, gunner and 9 soldiers.

The hull of the Lazar 3 is made of armored steel and can be fitted with a spall liner. The applied ballistic protection can be tailored to the specific needs of the user and allows for application of additional state-of-the-art ballistic protection technologies throughout the vehicle service life.
