The new CLU will be lighter, almost two kilos and 70% smaller, and it will be called LWCLU. The cost will remain the same, something that is a requirement by the US Army. To keep the cost down, the joint venture has decided to use COTS material. Moreover, the LWCLU will be capable of firing the older models of the missile.

The missiles will be produced in models “F” and “G”, with the first rolling-out this year and the latter in the next two after the completion of further improvements on the previous model.

The FGM-148 Javelin is an American man-portable fire-and-forget anti-tank missile fielded to replace the M47 Dragon anti-tank missile in US service. It has been purchased by the French Armed Forces for use in Afghanistan.
