Otokar from Turkey displays Cobra II latest generation of MRAP vehicle


Turkish company OTOKAR presents the latest generation of MRAP vehicles with its Cobra II at DSEI 2021, International Defense Exhibition in London, UK. COBRA II Mine-resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle was developed to ensure high survivability in risky areas.

The Cobra II MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle was unveiled by the Turkish company OTOKAR in May 2013 during the defense exhibition IDEF in Turkey. The vehicle was developed based on the previous version of the Cobra 4x4 armored vehicle with new features in terms of mobility, protection, and firepower.

The design of the Cobra II is standard with the engine at the front, crew in the middle, and troop's compartment at the rear. The vehicle is build based on a monocoque hull structure offering a lighter vehicle and better protection against blast of IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). It offers superior protection against ballistic, mine and IED threats in comparison with the first generation of Cobra vehicles while maintaining high cross-country mobility with its independent suspension system.

The Cobra II MRAP has been designed to offer a large internal volume and it has the capacity to carry eleven military personnel including driver and commander. It can be configured with alternative seating layouts for up to 11 personnel with 3 or 5 doors configurations as per specific user requirements.

The Cobra II MRAP has a length of 6.35 m, a width of 2.75 m, and a height of 26.5m. It has a gross vehicle weight of 18,500 kg. The vehicle is powered by a TurboCharged Diesel Engine developing 400 hp maximum coupled to an automatic transmission with (six forward and one reverse gears. It can run at a maximum road speed of 110 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 700 km.

The Cobra II MRAP can be fitted with a wide range of weapon stations including one man open-top turret, ring mount as well as remote weapon station armed with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun. The weapon station for the Cobra II can be also armed with automatic cannon up to 25mm caliber.
