FN Herstal to deliver 135 deFNder Light RWS Remote Weapon Stations to Belgian army


According to a press release published by the Belgian Ministry of Defense on September 11, 2020, the Belgian Company FN Herstal will deliver 135 deFNder Light RWS (Remote Weapon Station) armed with a 7.62mm machine gun to the Belgian army that will be mounted on the Belgian CLV (Command and Liaison Vehicle) Oshkosh JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle).

On September 11, 2020,the Belgian DGMR's (Directorate General Material Resources) Twitter account has announced that the Belgian Council of Ministers has given the green light to the Belgian Ministry of Defense to buy 322 JLTV CLV Command and Liaison Vehicles manufactured by American Company Oshkosh Defense.

The deFNder™ Light is a product designed and manufactured by the Belgian company FN Herstal, a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of small arms and ammunition for over a century. FN Herstal is the only weapon manufacturer on the market that offers the integration of its long-proven weapons onto a remotely operated weapon station.

The deFNder® Remote Weapon Stations provide optimized remote firing capability day and night while keeping the operator completely under armor protection. The deFNder® Light is the lightweight remote weapon station of the FN Herstal RWS family. It can integrate all FN Herstal machine guns up to 7.62mm caliber and is capable of extreme elevation and depression angles of operation.

This month, FN Herstal has already announced a signature of a strategic contract with the French company Nexter Systems in the framework of the CaMo (Capacité Motorisée, Motorized Capability) program for the modernization of the Belgian Army’s ground mobility capability. For this contract, FN Herstal will supply deFNder remote weapon station that will be mounted on the new Griffon wheeled multi-role armored vehicle as well as on the modernized version of French main battle tanks Leclerc XLR.

With these new contracts, Belgian FN Herstal once again shows its position as a world leader in the production of military weapon systems and more particularly in the manufacturing of state-of-the-art Remote Weapon Station that can integrate all the machine guns produced by FN Herstal.
