On June 27, 2022, the Army Recognition team reported that the German-made PzH 2000 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzers are now deployed in Ukraine with the Ukrainian army and are ready to fight Russian troops.

In May 2022, the Army Recognition editorial team reported that Netherlands and Germany approved the delivery of 12 PzH 2000, 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine. The Netherlands has provided five examples to Ukraine while Germany has supplied seven.

The PzH 2000 is German-made 155mm self-propelled howitzer and is considered a state-of-the-art artillery system. It provides artillery units and a Rapid Reaction Force with the best mix of firepower, mobility, and protection. Production of the PzH 2000 artillery system for the German Army started at the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann facility in Kassel in the second half of 1997. The German Army was the first army in the world to deploy a 155 mm/52 caliber self-propelled artillery system.

The design of the PzH 2000 is conventional for a tracked self-propelled howitzer with the driver position located at the front right side of the hull and the powerpack on its left. A turret with the main armament is mounted at the rear of the hull.

The PzH 2000 is armed with a Rheinmetall 155 mm L52 caliber cannon equipped with the matching Rheinmetall Modular Charge System (MTLS), giving the required range and rate of fire. The gun has a maximum firing range of 30 km with the standard L15A2 projectile and up to 40 km with extended-range ammunition. The artillery system is fitted with an automatic electrically driven projectile loading system enabling loading and firing to take place within the full traverse and elevation range. The 60-round projectile magazine as well as the complete shell handling system is controlled by an automatic data management system. It has a crew of five.

The PzH 2000 is based on tracked chassis. The torsion bar suspension consists of each side with seven double-tired road wheels with three track-return rollers, a drive sprocket at the front, and an idler at the rear. It can run at a maximum road speed of 60 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 420 km.
