The Spanish Army has launched a tender with a budget of 1.4 million euros for the maintenance of its aging 35/90 anti-aircraft guns.

The contract explains that “the revisions, repairs, modifications, adaptations, tests and other maintenance-related works that are necessary in each case will be carried out to return the systems, assemblies and subsets that make up the system to the condition of perfect condition of functioning". These works will be implemented between October 2020 and December 2022, according to the tender notice published on the State Procurement Platform.
The Oerlikon GDF, or Oerlikon 35 mm twin cannon, is a towed anti-aircraft gun made by Oerlikon Contraves (renamed as Rheinmetall Air Defence AG following the merger with Rheinmetall in 2009). The system was originally designated as 2 ZLA/353 ML but this was later changed to GDF-001. It was developed in the late 1950s and is used by around 30 countries.
The Spanish artillery units operate 92 35/90 twin-gun anti-aircraft systems. These weapons were acquired in the 1970s and modernized at the beginning of this century to the GDF-007 standard.
The companies interested in the tender have until August 28 to obtain the contract documents and submit their participation requests.
