The Arctic divisions of the Russian army will soon receive a special version of the Tornado-G multiple launch rocket system (MLRS). The Russian defense industry has created a version of the Tornado-G MLRS on the tracked chassis of the Vityaz series two-link all-terrain vehicles following the example of the already created Arctic air defense systems Tor-M2DT and Pantsir-SA. Both systems are built on the chassis of a two-link tracked DT-30PM.

There are no details available of the development. Most likely the new MLRS will differ from the base version only in the chassis. Also, there is still no information on the timing of the arrival of the new MLRS in the units. For the first time, information about the creation of MLRS for the Arctic appeared in 2018. Then it was not only about Tornado-G, but also about Tornado-S.
The Tornado-G 122-mm MLRS is an upgraded version of the Grad launchers. A special feature is the increased efficiency of shooting, more powerful ammunition, the presence of automated guidance, aiming, topographic and navigation systems. Introduced into service in 2014. The range includes cluster shells with detachable warhead and self-aiming cumulative warheads.

Snow and swamp-going vehicle Vityaz is made according to the double link scheme and is distinguished by high cross-country ability and maneuverability. Weighing 28 tonnes, the ground pressure of the tracks is only about 0.3 kg/cm². The machine is equipped with an 800-horsepower diesel engine. The carrying capacity of the tractor is 30 tons.
The Vityaz DT-30 is a multi-purpose articulated tracked carrier developed in the Soviet Union. It was designed to carry heavy loads in difficult terrain like swamps, sand and snow in extreme weather conditions. The DT-10P (as well as its modernized version DT-30PM, hence the "M") and DT-30P ATVs are widely used by Russian troops deployed in challenging environmental regions, on islands (for transporting army elements, ammunition, equipment, FOLs and installation of weapon systems). Because of low ground pressure, vehicle is theoretically immune to certain types of AT mines. ATVs are indispensable as recovery vehicles, since they have a high pull ratio (approximately 500 kN for the DT-30P) and can approach a stuck or damaged vehicle from any direction in bad road conditions. The DT-10P and DT-30P transporters are very efficient as part of search and rescue teams operating in extreme conditions (bad roads, floods, snow-drifts, land and snow slides and large-scale destruction) when it is necessary to evacuate people, animals, and various cargoes up to 30 ton by weight, or transport rescue teams, medical personnel, various equipment and food to the affected area.
