The manufacturer claims its Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) is built to NATO standards. The Varta can transport troops in a safe environment thanks to the specialized 560mm steel used to manufacture the vehicle’s capsule, which can protect the crew from small arms fire up to 7.62mm armor piercing or fragments (Level 2 by STANAG 4569). The V-shaped hull offers protection from mine blasts up to 6kg TNT. The fighting module can mount a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun and there are ten firing ports able to accommodate UBGL (under barrel grenade launchers).

The vehicle has a 3-tonne payload capacity and has a crew of two plus a gunner and anti-mine seats for eight people in the rear. The engine is a Cummins V6 turbo diesel developing 380hp associated to an eight-gear manual transmission. The top road speed is set at 120 km/h. The run flat tyres can be inflated or deflated by the driver whilst driving to match terrain conditions. It also has a winch and front and rear cameras. Varta also has a high speed fire suppression system for the crew and engine compartments with UV and IR sensors that can indicate combustion in 3 milliseconds and suppress it in 250 milliseconds.
