Renault Trucks Defense will deliver more than 400 Special Forces vehicles to the French Army.
Renault Trucks Defense will deliver new 4x4 combat vehicles to the Special Forces units of the French Army. In December 2015, French army has signed a contract with Renault Trucks Defense for the delivery of 202 PLFS (poids lourds des forces spéciales - Special Forces Heavy Vehicle) and 241 VLFS '(véhicules légers des forces spéciale- Special Forces Light Vehicle) especially designed for Special Forces.
     
Renault Trucks Defense will deliver new 4x4 combat vehicles to the Special Forces units of the French Army. The first version of the VLFS was showed on the French Army booth during the International Defense Exhibition, Eurosatory in June 2016. The vehicles seems to be based on the Sherpa 4x4 light armoured vehicle but with modifications according to the needs of the French Special Forces.
 
 

The VLFS features new wheels to increase off-road mobility. Each side of the vehicle are fitted with storage boxes. Two folding windscreens are mounted at the front of the crew cabin. A self-recovery winch is mounted at the front of the hull.

The VLFS can carried five military personnel using an open top architecture with one lateral door and one rear door. The floor of crew compartment is protected against mine blast, and depending the tactical situation the vehicle can be fitted with add-on armour.

At the front of the seat commander is mounted a swivel station armed with a 12.7mm machine gun. A circular ring mount armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun is available in the center of the crew compartment offering 360° fire power against land and air targets. Two additional swivel station armed with 7.62mm machine are mounted at the rear of the vehicle.
 

The VLFS can also be armed with LGA40, 40mm automatic grenade launcher, Minigun M134 six-barreled, electrically-driven rotary 7.62mm gun or anti-tank missile weapon systems.

The VLFS will be delivered to the French Army Special Forces in two configurations, combat and logistic vehicle which will be fitted with a crane or a water tank.
