Russia and India signed an agreement to develop new air defence systems for Indian armed forces.
Russia’s major defence company Almaz-Antei and India’s private enterprise Reliance Defence signed an agreement to develop, manufacture and maintain air defence systems and radars for the Indian armed forces, the Reliance Defence company’s press service reports.

"The companies /Almaz-Antei and Reliance Defence/ have also discussed the joint modernization, repair and overhaul of air defence systems developed and manufactured by Almaz-Antei, now in service with the Indian armed forces," says the statement of the Indian company, incorporated by the Reliance Infrastructure holding association belonging to billionaire Anil Ambani.

"Both companies have also discussed joint upgrade, repair and overhaul of air defense systems Almaz Antey Enterprise developed, produced and delivered to the Indian armed forces," the press office said.

According to the press office, Russia and India have agreed on a list of air defense systems, radars and automated control systems they will work on jointly, including the Tor-M1 antiaircraft missile system.

The Reliance Defence official did not specify if the deal comprises S-400 Triumph air defence systems the Indians plan to acquire. He added that the list of air defence systems, radars, and automatic control systems /including Tor-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems/ on which the parties intend to cooperate, has already been compiled. The economic parameters of the deal are not disclosed

The TOR-M1 9A331-1 (NATO code : SA-15 Gauntlet) surface-to-air missile system is a mobile, integrated air defense system designed and manufacrured by the The Russian Defence Industry. The TOR-M1 is intended for effective defense of troops, civilian and industrial facilities from current and future air attack weapons, primarily high-precision weapons, as well as from aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, guided aerial bombs and remotely piloted vehicles.
