The
PCL-09 or CS/SH1 (export name) is a 122 wheeled self-propelled howitzer
designed and manufactured by the Chinese Company Norinco. The vehicle
was unveiled in the official military magazine of the Chinese army (PLA).
The PCL-09 was used for the first the time in 2010 during a joint military
exercise of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization). The PCL-09
is similar to the French Caesar 155 wheeled howitzer, and uses a wheeled
truck chassis with a 122mm howitzer mounted at the rear part. This vehicle
is already in service in the Chinese armed forces. This wheeled self-propelled
howitzer can be ready to fire in less than 90 seconds.

| Armament |
A 122mm
howitzer is mounted at the rear of 6x6 truck chassis. For
its self-protection, a 12.7 mm machine can be mounted to the
top crew cabin. Elevation and traverse is hydraulic with manual
controls being provided as a back-up. For indirect usual firing
elevation ranges from -3° to +70º with traverse being
30 º left and right. The PCL-09 or CS/SH1 can fire at
a maximum range of 27 km with a rate of fire of 8rds/min.
In firing position, one spade is lowered on each side of the
truck chassis to provide a more stable firing platform. The
vehicle can carry a total of 40 rounds of ammunition.

| Design
and protection |
| The
PCL-09 or CS/SH1 is based on a modified 6x6 Chinese truck. A
fully enclosed cab is mounted at the front of the vehicle and
has individual seats for the crew of five. There is two doors
on each side of the crew cabin and one hatch is available at
the top right side. |
| Propulsion |
The
PCL-09 or CS/SH1 uses a 6x6 chassis with one axle at the front
and two axles at the rear. The vehicle can run at a maximum
road speed of 85 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km.

| Accessories |
A
spare wheel is fitted at the rear of the crew cabin. Two large
individual containers are mounted at the rear of the cabin crew
which can probably store ammunitions and accessories.
