"Yes, we have [such missiles], and [they have] a much longer range," Obnosov said, asked if Tactical Missiles had developed cruise missiles similar to the Kalibr.

In addition, the director general said smart bombs developed by the corporation he led had been employed in Syria. According to him, the military has been pleased with the results produced.

Obnosov has said the lessons learnt from the Syrian operation would be considered in the course of developing future munitions. "We have gained a wealth of new information. Exercises and tests are one thing, but the real-war employment in a theater of war very different to our environment is quite another. There are a different ambient temperature, a different terrain and a quite different humidity there. The heat haze emerges in the lower atmosphere at certain hours. Naturally, this causes peculiarities for the guidance equipment, necessitating, for instance, laser illumination of targets," the Tactical Missiles director general concluded.
