Army-2021: Rostec unveils Sosna-N anti-sniper robot detector


The Sosna-N robotic sniper detector, developed by Polyus Research Institute of M.F. Stelmak (part of Shvabe holding company of Rostec State Corporation), is shown for the first time at the Army-2021 International Military-Technical Forum.

The laser-optical detection system is automatic and works with remote control. It can provide round-the-clock surveillance of the surrounding area and detecting any active optical devices being used for spotting or targeting, such as sniper rifle scopes, binoculars or anti-tank missile targeting systems.

Sosna-N is capable of both sounding an alarm signal and marking the location of the detected sniper and "blinding" the target’s optics by pointing a directed laser towards him. It is a dual-purpose system. In an interview with TASS, the chief designer of the product, Mikhail Ruzin, noted that Sosna-N can be used both to ensure the safety of guarded persons, as well as protect various objects and general privacy: "The system can be installed on the VIP-box of a sports stadium or around the perimeter of the protected building. When one tries to film, observe through binoculars or aim through sniper optics, Sosna-N will create visual interference for the target and instantly give out their exact location," said Ruzin.

The device can operate at distances of up to 3,000 meters, while the laser suppression range is up to 2,000 meters. It weighs only 4.6 kg, and the portable control pad weighs around 1.1 kg.
