At
Eurosatory 2010, Nexter present a new version of
his Aravis, the Fire Support version. This version
can be used as gunfire support provided by Aravis®
system fitted with the remotely-operated ARX®20
cupola developed by Nexter Systems. Its 20- mm gun
offers the crew a firing power and the desired precision
over a distance in excess of 1500 m, without collateral
damages.
The
French fire support version of the Aravis
is equipped with a remotely weapon station
armed with a 20 mm gun, the ARX-20 Nexter
turret. ARX®20 cupolas comes as a true
alternate solution, compared to the 12.7-mm
systems and the turrets fitted with a 25-
or 30-mm gun with its compactness and low
weight similar to 12.7 machine guns, 20
mm guns fire more powerful projectiles.
The system can easily be installed on any
types of carriers, including light all-track
vehicles. ARX®20 can be used to fire
as you go and is capable of engaging targets
from a distance in excess of 2,000 meters.
The cupola has an all weather, day/night
and all-round observation capability and
is also well suited for secure missions
and for combat in urban areas.
Protection
The
protection of the Aravis Observation variant
is based on the company's new Safepro Nexter
armour technology, outclasses that of all
existing 4 x 4 vehicles. Nexter Systems
has developped SAFEPRO, an armour technology
that can defeat combined effects (blast
and fragments of attacks) generated both
by the most lethal IED, mines and anti-personnel
carbide HMG bullets.
Propulsion
The Aravis, is based on the light truck
chassis Mecedes-Benz U-5000. Nexter Systems
selected the Unimog U5000 chassis for the
Aravis because of its legendary high mobility
on roads and across country, and because
of the wide availability of spare parts.
The vehicle is powered by a 218-hp Mercedes
Benz four-cylinder diesel OM 924 engine
and can achieve a top speed of 100 km/h
and a range of 750 km.
Accessories
The
Aravis Observation variant is equipped with
an optronic Margot 5000 system, an integrated
surveillance solution, designed and manufactured
by the French Company Thales. The standard
equipment includes day/night observation
system, rangefinder laser system.
