Spanish Army introduced first prototype of the VERT land reconnaissance vehicle
The first prototype of the Land Reconnaissance Vehicle (known by its Spanish acronym, VERT), designed and developed by the Spanish Army’s Logistic Support Command, was introduced to the Chief of the Army Staff, Army General Jaime Domínguez Buj, on 8 April at Spanish Army HQ in Madrid.

The presentation took place after the prototype passed the final tests. It is the result of many months of collaborative work between the Land Platforms Technical Section of the Acquisitions Directorate, the Cavalry Academy’s Doctrine Command and the commanders of the Cavalry Regiment “España” (the latter, as end users), on the one side, and the companies Urovesa (manufacturers of the VAMTAC the VERT is mounted on) and Navantia (which contributes the advanced observation systems and has integrated the sensors), on the other.

The VERT has been conceived to equip Cavalry reconnaissance units with a more versatile vehicle and the most modern means to locate and identify the enemy.

The new vehicle is at its core a VAMTAC of the High Protection model, to which have been added a series of reconnaissance, exploration and communications devices. Prominent among them is its telescopic mast, which is fitted with TV, laser and infrared cameras and whose gyro stabilisation allows recording to be unaffected by the movement of the vehicle.

If the prototype lives up to expectations, the first batch of VERTs will go into production in the near future.
