| Battelle contracted to support US Special Operations Forces | |||
|
Battelle, an innovation firm managing some of the world’s leading laboratories, has been contracted by the US Army to support the Special Operations Forces. The company was recently awarded a USD33 million Defense Systems Technical Area Task (DS TAT) from the Army Nattick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Command.

The aim of the project is to provide technical analysis and support for the special operations forces survival support and equipment systems, survivability team. In specific, Battelle will provide individual and integrated personal protection for the special operations operators, within the next five years. The project will include development, testing and fielding mission enhancement capabilities. The operators’ protection will include personal protective equipment, eyewear, helmets, communications headsets, canine equipment, free-fall and airborne systems, less than lethal technologies and vertical assault equipment. Lee Charpentier, Battelle’s Project Manager, said: “Our main goal is centered on improving and enhancing the performance of the operator whether it’s through integrated survivability components or integrated equipment systems. We have the specialized testing facilities, innovative mindset and the agility favored by the Special Operations Forces community.” |
