Defence cooperation between Russia and North Korea will expand in the future
On April 15, the Russian Minister of Defence General of the Army met the Minister of the People’s Armed Forces of the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, official name of North Korea) who had arrived in Russia to the IV Moscow Conference on International Security. At the opening of the negotiations, the Head of the Russian Military department stated that the position of Russia concerning the cooperation between the two states would not change – it would only expand in the future.

“Our countries have great plans concerning the expansion of the bilateral relationships in different fields. I would like to emphasize the principal policy of Russia to strengthen the cooperation with the DPRK in the spirit of the agreements reached at the highest level will remain unchanged,” said Sergei Shoigu.

The Defence Minister also remarked that the Russian party was satisfied with the Russian-Korean contacts in 2014. “I am sure that your visit to Russia will contribute to the further development of the friendly Russian-Korean relationships, strengthening of peace and security in Asia,” stressed General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.

The head of the Russian Military department thanked his colleague for acceptance of the invitation to participate in the Moscow Conference on International Security. “I am sure that your speech at the plenary session concerning the security situation on the Korean peninsula will greatly contribute to the work of the Forum,” said the Russian Defence Minister.

In his turn, the Head of the North Korean Military department said that the relationships between Russia and the DPRK dynamically developed reaching a higher level thanks to the leaders of the both countries.

“I hope that at the forthcoming Moscow Conference on International Security we will widely discuss the issues concerning the serious situation around the both countries and other regions as well as main factors of threats and challenges to the security in the modern world. I am sure that the conference will provide a basis for meaningful discussions of these issues,” said the Minister of the People’s Armed Forces of the DPRK.
