Israeli Company Elbit Systems to provide 12 155mm towed howitzer Soltam Athos to Philippines.

Elbit Systems Soltam Athos 155mm autonomous towed howitzer system
     

The Israeli Company Elbit Systems will provide 12 pieces of 155 Howitzer canons Soltam Athos with accessories and ammunition.

The ATHOS is an autonomous, computerized 155 mm towed howitzer. It is rapidly deployed and operable in difficult terrain, having superior cross country abilities using self-mobility. The system has high survivability through a shootand- scoot capability. The system comprises of a modern platform with an APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) and a driver station.

The APU also supplies the continuous energy to the automotive, hydraulic and electric systems, enabling autonomous system operation and short reaction going into or out of action. The ATHOS can be easily towed by any in-service prime mover for strategic movement.

The basic system includes Elbit Systems’ most modern 52 Caliber Gun System which can achieve a range of 41 km.

The Soltam Athos is equipped with an hydraulic crane for loading and pneumatic loader assist systems. It has a rate of fire with auto loader of 3 rounds within 15 sec.
