The President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff wants to continue modernization of the Brazilian army.

Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff Friday, April 19, 2013, stressed the "process of transformation, modernization and updating" of the operation means of the Brazilian Army. Rousseff gave a speech at a ceremony of the 365th anniversary of the Brazilian Army, held Friday at the Brazilian Army's General Headquarters in Brasilia before her trip to Venezuela to attend the ceremony of swearing-in of president Nicolas Maduro.

Brazilian army has presented lof of new equipment at the LAAD 2013, International Defence Exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
     

In her speech, Rousseff recalled her "pride" for the performance of the Brazilian Army in peace missions, which began in Suez, Egypt, in 1950, and currently continue in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah).

"In these days, our Army is going through a process of transformation, through strategic projects in areas such as science and technology, training and recovery of its deterrent capacity," she said.

While General Enzo Marins Peri, Brazilian Army's Commander, said on the occasion "there are new materials, new doctrine and new capacities" in the institution.

The Day of the Army commemorates the Brazilian victory against the Dutch in Guararapes Battle, near Recife city, in the northeastern state of Pernambuco on April 18, 1648.
