"Talks with the United Arab Emirates, Chile, South Africa and Vietnam on the delivery of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile are at an advanced stage," the spokesman said.

"As Russia is India’s partner in the BrahMos joint venture, it was important to receive its consent before signing delivery contracts," the spokesman added.

"Also, talks will be held to discuss the delivery of these missiles to some other countries, in particular, the Philippines, South Korea, Algeria, Greece, Malaysia, Thailand, Egypt, Singapore, Venezuela and Bulgaria," Pathak said.

According to the spokesman, a contract for the delivery of the BrahMos cruise missile to the United Arab Emirates will be signed soon, approximately, in late 2016 as "India and Russia have good relations with this country". "There will be no problem with the delivery of the BrahMos missile to this country as there is no conflict of interest here," he added.

"As for Vietnam, the situation is not so clear here as India has to take into account China’s position on arms deliveries to this country. The situation has also been affected by the long-standing conflict between China and Vietnam over sea borders," Pathak said.

"We expect friendly countries, with whom neither India nor Russia have any conflict, to be interested in purchasing our missiles", the spokesman said.
