At BSDA 2018, General Dynamics representatives were not allowed to give interviews to the press but only provide the informations already available on the Romanian ministry of Defense's web site, following the instructions given by te ministry itself. So, Army Recognition simply recalls what the Romanian contract consists in.

At BSDA 2018, Mowag insisted on displaying the cooperation with Romanian partners in the production of the 227 Piranha 5 vehicles purchased by the Romanian army. On 12 January 2018, Romania signed, for a 1 billion+ USD value, a contract with General Dynamics Land Systems for the purchase of 227 Piranha 5s in six different versions: ICV armed with a 30mm cannon, 120mm mortar, Command Post, CBRN, Ambulance, and Recovery. The Romanian vehicles are quite identical to the version purchased by Danemark.

The main local partner is UMB (Uzina Mecanica Bucuresti) for which GD will manage a complete transfer of technology. The first 36 vehicles are scheduled to be delivered by late 2018. After that, the delivery rate is schduled to be 30 to 40 vehicles per year till the end of the contract.
